It is time to say something, we can not wait more time.
We need to talk about what we see that they, the day, 2nd May 1808.
It was in the morning when a crowd from Madrid arrived in front of the
Royal Palace. The crowd was suspecting of the intentions of the French Army:
the want to kidnap the Infant Francisco de Paula (the small kid of
Charles IV and Maria Luisa de Parma)
Charles IV
was forced to abdicate in favour of Ferdinand VII. Both were obligated to
go to Bayonne to meet with Napoleon, when the historic fact of the abdications
of Bayonne took place.
Apart from
that, Jose Blas de Molina, a locksmith, decided to do an heroic act. He
hid in the building to know what was happening as well as where and how was the
Infant. After some time the shout of Molina saying “Treason! They are going to
take him!”. The immediate reaction was the assault.
This revelation
is taken in advantage of by Joachim
Murat, which send the Imperial Guard to the Palace, also with artillery,
that fire against the crowd.
It was not
only to prevent the departure of the Infant, but also get rid of the French
people. With this feelings, the fight spread in all Madrid. This way was how a
spontaneous popular uprising started by
the crowd from Madrid.
Now it is time for you to know the faces, and the main roles of them in that story:
Joachim Murat
He was one of Napoleon's most celebrated
Marshalls and King of Naples.
He was the
one who save the life of the Infant in
that day, 2nd of May.
- This
character was the one who involuntarily provoke the uprising in Madrid, the 2nd
May 1808.
It was the entrance of this infant, still a
child, in a float situated in front of the Royal Palace because they had to go
to Bayona, when someone started to shout : “they are going to take him!” the
climax to the popular explosion against the French army.
